Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State, Ministry of Coal and Mines, inaugurated the Third National Conference and Exhibition on Corporate Social Responsibility (NCCSR 2026) in New Delhi. Organised by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the two-day conference runs on 6–7 October 2026 under the theme “Re-envisioning the Spirit of CSR for Viksit Bharat: From Compliance to Commitment.”
In his keynote address, Shri Satish Chandra Dubey emphasised that national economic growth, regional development, and community well-being in resource-bearing areas are closely linked. He observed that economic progress acquired its fullest meaning when its benefits were reflected in “stronger communities, wider opportunity and more resilient regions”.
He also formally released the Comprehensive CSR Framework for Indian Coal Companies to provide sector-specific direction for structured, need-based interventions. The inaugural session featured the release of the India CSR Factbook 2024–25.
Dr. Pallavi Jain Govil, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, stated that the theme called upon stakeholders to “look beyond the annual obligation” and contribute to India’s development journey. She highlighted India's statutory CSR architecture, combining statutory obligation, Board oversight, public disclosure, and impact assessment.
Shri Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, Director General & CEO of IICA, noted in his welcome address that “decisions may be taken in Board rooms, but their value is ultimately seen in schools, health centres, livelihood programmes, villages, towns and districts where they affect the lives of people”.
The event included a fireside chat on the Social Stock Exchange, a keynote address by Additional Secretary Shri Ansuman Pattnaik inviting companies to register on the CSR Exchange Portal, and high-level panel discussions on board governance, strategic commitment, and sector-based approaches aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The sessions emphasised moving beyond uniform approaches to recognise distinct sectoral development contexts and strengthening institutional quality, evidence-based project selection, and outcome assessments.
Why it matters
This conference highlights the government's push to align corporate social responsibility with broader national goals like Viksit Bharat. For businesses and public sector enterprises, the discussions signal a regulatory shift toward rigorous impact assessment, sector-specific frameworks, and board-level accountability rather than routine compliance. Companies operating in resource-heavy and other distinct sectors will need to adapt to structured, outcome-oriented frameworks like the new coal sector guidelines and utilize platforms like the CSR Exchange Portal. Investors and corporate boards should anticipate tighter scrutiny on how social investments address local community needs and align with sustainable development goals.
